Souper Bowl Soup Drive

January 30 - February 24

Food insecurity is no game and is especially hard this year for many local families. You can help the library’s Teen Advisory Boardbowl of soup tackle hunger by donating boxed crackers and hearty canned soups, stews, or chili to the Souper Bowl Soup Drive. Donations can be placed in the marked bin at the library during business hours January 30 through February 24. With your help, we can score a touchdown for our local food bank.

 

All the Feels Winter Reading ChallengeAll the Feels Winter Reading Challenge

January 1st through February 28th

Experience all the feels this winter and read something that evokes your emotions! All ages are invited to participate in our All the Feels Winter Reading Challenge. Sign up online or use the Beanstack app to track your reading progress between Jan 1st and Feb 28th. Help the library win a prize in the national reading competition. Those who complete the challenge will earn a prize and kids will be invited to our Seussabration event.

Mini-Masterpieces : Paint a Feeling

It’s a Tiny Art Show! Pick up your canvas and information sheetart gallery at the library (while supplies last) and create your own unique art on canvas, using materials of all kinds from paint to collage. Bring your art back to the library to be displayed in our Mini Art Gallery to be voted on. Winners will receive sweet prizes in Kids (11 and under), Teen (12-18), and Adult (19 and up) categories. Mark your calendars with the following dates:

  • Canvases Available  All canvases have been claimed
  • Entries Due    By February 9
  • Voting Takes Place   February 11 - 18

1000 books before kindergarten

We're relaunching 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten in our Beanstack platform with new incentives and a new look. Register online or download the Beanstack app and begin logging books. After the first 100 books, visit the library to receive a lanyard, brag tag, and a book tote. Continue logging books to earn a brag tag and digital badges for every 100 books. Readers who log 1,000 books will receive a free book and certificate of completion. Reading out loud with your child helps to develop early literacy skills important for school readiness.

PHS Yearbook Archiveyearbooks

It is a blast from the past! The Poquoson High School yearbooks from 1935 through 2002 have been digitized and are now available. Have fun searching for pictures of your family and friends. If you have good condition copies of editions we are missing and would be willing to let us borrow to digitize, contact the library at 868-3060.

family picture Teaming up with the Poquoson Museum and the Poquoson Historical Commission, the library is creating a digital archive of historic photos of Poquoson for the public to enjoy. If you have old photographs, negatives, or slides and would consider loaning them to the library for scanning, please call the library at 757-868-3060.
